About us

Wishart Community Church is a community-oriented church on the corner of Wishart & Ham Roads in Wishart, a suburb in the south of Brisbane in Australia. We are a member church of the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia.

We are united by our true faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, thankfully serving each other with special gifts received from the Holy Spirit, joyfully worshipping and praising God. We proclaim His pure Word, teaching His way, confessing our sins, offering prayers and gifts, and purely administering and celebrating sacraments.

We practise church discipline with love and grace, and celebrate and nourish our new life in Christ holding Jesus Christ as our only Head. He stays with us in the Holy Spirit, thrusting us into local and worldwide mission.

Our core values

Biblical Teaching

We value teaching that is Bible-based and in harmony with Reformed theology. We believe that preaching and teaching should help us to have a better understanding of the thoughts and character of God. We believe that the Word is our daily bread and the only foundation for our life and salvation. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; Romans 10:17)

Prayer

We value prayer as the way we bring our concerns, hopes, and joys before the Lord. When we read the bible, we hear the voice of God; when we pray, we voice our thoughts to Him. (Philippians 4:6; John 15:7; James 5:16)

Loving People

We value loving relationships, meeting together, and unity. As a Christian community, we are a family and as one we join together in love and forgiveness. We work through justice and mercy issues with patience and diligence, striving to build one another up and meet one another’s needs. (John 13:34-35; 1 John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 13:1-13)

Godly Leadership

We value godly leaders who protect us from the path of destruction and who model godliness in all that they do. As members of the church, we look to our leaders to help us grow spiritually and be resilient followers of Jesus, and when we stray, to guid us back to a life of faithful obedience to Him. (1 Peter 5:2-3; 2 Timothy 2:24-26; Matthew 20:25-28; 1 Thessalonians 5:14)

Worship and Singing

We value singing and making music, as a special way to worship God for who He is and what He has done. We encourage those with musical gifts to serve God’s people by facilitating worship that gives glory to God and inspires His church. Through our worship we draw near to God, and He draws near to us. (Colossians 3:16; Psalm 95:1-2; Psalm 30:4)

Our Community

We value our neighbours! All people are made in the image of God and have inherent worth. We want to reach those who do not know Jesus Christ, and help them find a joyful relationship with God and with His people. (Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 12:16; Hebrews 10:24-25; Galatians 6:2)
