What we believe

At Wishart Community Church, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God sent to redeem the world. We love and trust Him as the One who saves us from our sin. We will continue to turn from our rebellion against our Lord, and with repentance and joy we embrace Him as the Lord of our lives.

We acknowledge that the teaching of the Bible, as summarised in the Apostles’ Creed and our confessions, is the true and complete doctrine of salvation.

We accept the gracious promises of God, sealed in our baptism, and we affirm our union with Christ and His church, which baptism signifies. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the holy sacraments through which the Lord assures us that our entire salvation rests on Christ’s one sacrifice for us on the cross.

Apostles' Creed

Contains a brief summary of the teachings of the apostles.

Nicene Creed

A statement of the faith of the early Christian church in opposition to certain heresies.

Athanasian Creed

Consists of two parts, the first setting forth the orthodox doctrine of the trinity, and the second dealing chiefly with the incarnation and the two-natures doctrine.

Belgic Confession

Consists of 37 articles prepared in 1561 to set out the beliefs of the Reformed churches of the Netherlands.

Heidelberg Cathechism

A confessional document, suitable for learning and teaching, taking the form of a series of questions and answers.

Canons of Dort

These are an exposition of five points of doctrine that were in dispute in the Netherlands in the 17th century.

Westminster Confession

We accept the Westminster Confession as the fourth confessional standard of the Reformed church, insofar as it agrees with the Belgic Confession.
